A Day in the Life of… Emma Coldrick | Aftermarket Sales

Emma has been part of the Pennaire Filtration team for eight and a half years, working in aftermarket sales. Her day centres around making sure customers get the right spare parts, organising site walk-arounds, and coordinating LEV testing services – keeping the filtration systems of businesses across multiple sectors running as they should.

A typical day

No two days look quite the same for Emma. Responding to incoming calls for spares, progressing live projects, diagnosing filtration problems, arranging LEV services, and processing invoices can all feature before lunchtime. “A typical day varies – there is quite a variety of work,” she says, and that variety is something she genuinely values. The breadth of industries Pennaire serves means there is always something new to learn and a different challenge to work through.

What customers need help with

When customers call Emma, they’re often dealing with an urgent or unexpected problem – filter bags that have gone on fire, broken cages, or systems that have simply stopped performing. Emma’s experience means she can often give initial guidance over the phone, helping customers understand what might be causing the issue. But when the root cause isn’t immediately clear, her approach is straightforward. “If the customer doesn’t know what the issue is, the best way of coming to a solution is to get an engineer to visit.” A site visit is often the quickest route to the right answer – and the right fix.

What we supply most

Filter bags and filter cages are the most in-demand products Emma handles, and the range is broader than many customers might expect. “There are lots of variations – from ones that can stand high temperatures, like Aramid, to water repellent ones like Oleophobic,” she explains. Getting the specification right makes a real difference to system performance and service life, and Emma’s depth of product knowledge means customers get the right recommendation first time.

The most unusual request

One job that stands out involved a bespoke catalyst bag designed to sit within a collection area and fitted with lugs, so it could be lifted out by chain rather than requiring an operative to enter the space manually. “The material was corrosive,” Emma explains, “so designing it that way meant the operative didn’t have to go in and manually empty it.” It’s a good example of the kind of problem-solving that goes well beyond supplying off-the-shelf parts.

The best part of the job

For Emma, the relationships are what make the role. She has built up long-standing connections with many of Pennaire’s customers – some going back as long as she has been with the business. “One of the best parts about the job is talking to the customers and getting to know them,” she says. “We work with lots of different types of businesses in different sectors, so I am learning all the time.” That combination of familiar faces and fresh challenges is what keeps the role rewarding, day after day.
