Workplaces with Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) equipment designed to prevent or control exposure to dust emissions and hazardous substances must comply with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) 2002 (specifically, Section 9).
Under COSHH Regulation 9, businesses in the UK must arrange a thorough examination and test of their LEV equipment at least once every 14 months, and a record of every LEV test must be kept for at least five years, including details of any remedial work carried out as a result. How often should LEV be inspected? Pennaire recommends a full LEV examination annually, with additional LEV system inspections every six months as part of a preventative maintenance programme. This exceeds the statutory minimum and gives you the earliest possible warning of system degradation.
